A former South-West Coordinator of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council in the 2023 election, Chief Sola Ebiseni, has defected to the All Progressives Congress.

Ebiseni, who is also the Secretary-General of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, declared his support for President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term in the 2027 presidential election.

He made the declaration on Thursday during a visit to the Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, at the Government House in Akure.

Ebiseni said he and his supporters had been integrated into the APC campaign structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The former Labour Party chieftain said his decision to support Tinubu was based on what he described as the national interest.

He said he was part of a group of Nigerians that had quietly engaged political stakeholders across the six geopolitical zones over the past year, adding that the findings from those engagements informed their decision.

Ebiseni said the group would make its findings public in greater detail.

He also cited security as one of the factors behind his decision, saying it was in the national interest to support the current Commander-in-Chief and build on the existing security approach rather than introduce a new one.

Receiving Ebiseni and his supporters, Aiyedatiwa said Ebiseni’s political experience and activities across Ondo State, as well as his roles in Afenifere and other socio-cultural organisations, would contribute to the APC’s campaign efforts.

The governor also said the presence of the APC state chairman at the meeting was to demonstrate the party’s readiness to integrate Ebiseni and his supporters into its campaign structure.
