Ex-Beşiktaş Goalkeeper Backs Ndidi to Shine in Turkey After Strong Debut Season
Former Super Eagles goalkeeper Ike Shorunmu has praised Wilfred Ndidi’s impact at Beşiktaş, saying his leadership and consistency show he is quickly becoming a key figure for both club and country.
Former Super Eagles goalkeeper Ike Shorunmu has praised Wilfred Ndidi for his impressive first season with Turkish giants Beşiktaş, expressing confidence that the midfielder can play an even bigger role for the club next season.
Ndidi joined Beşiktaş after leaving Leicester City and quickly established himself as one of the team’s key figures, making regular appearances and earning significant responsibility within the squad.
The Nigerian midfielder was also appointed vice-captain during the campaign, a move that drew praise from Shorunmu, who described it as a sign of the respect Ndidi has already earned at the club despite arriving only recently.
Shorunmu believes Ndidi’s leadership qualities, experience, and consistency could be important as Beşiktaş look to challenge rivals such as Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe more strongly in the coming season.
The 29-year-old remains a central figure for the Nigeria national football team, where he currently serves as captain and continues to be one of the squad’s most experienced players.
Ndidi’s performances in Turkey have also reinforced his reputation as one of Nigeria’s most reliable midfielders, with expectations growing that he will continue to play a major role for both club and country in the months ahead.
