EPL: Coventry Beat Forest 1-0 for First Premier League Win in 25 Years

Coventry City ended a 25-year wait for a Premier League victory on Saturday, defeating Nottingham Forest 1-0 at the City Ground.

Jay Dasilva scored the decisive goal 10 minutes after half-time, giving Coventry their first league goal and points of the season after four consecutive defeats without scoring.

The promoted Sky Blues produced a disciplined performance to frustrate Forest, who created several opportunities but struggled to find a way through Coventry’s defence.

The breakthrough came in the 55th minute after goalkeeper Carl Rushworth launched a long kick forward. Dasilva raced onto the ball, beat Daniel Munoz and calmly finished past Matz Sels to send the travelling supporters into celebration.

Forest pushed forward in search of an equaliser and came close when substitute Igor Jesus had an effort cleared off the line by Bobby Thomas.

Jesus eventually appeared to have rescued a point for the hosts when he scored in the 86th minute. However, the goal was reviewed by VAR after referee Jarred Gillett was sent to the pitchside monitor.

Gillett subsequently ruled that Jesus had fouled Coventry defender Caleb Yirenkyi in the build-up, cancelling the equaliser and preserving Coventry’s lead.

The victory ended Coventry’s long wait for a top-flight win. Their previous Premier League victory came in April 2001, when they defeated Sunderland 1-0. They were relegated at the end of that season after 34 consecutive campaigns in the top flight.

The result also marked Coventry’s first Premier League goal since Mustapha Hadji scored against Aston Villa in May 2001.

Lampard’s team had endured a difficult start following promotion, losing their opening four matches without scoring. The victory provided their first points since returning to the division.

For Forest, the defeat was their second league loss of the campaign. They have also struggled to score at home, failing to find the net in their opening three Premier League matches at the City Ground.

Coventry’s victory moves them off the bottom of the table, while Forest will reflect on the late VAR decision.

The result offered Coventry belief after their difficult opening. The Sky Blues will now look to build on the result after the international break, with Lampard hoping the historic victory provides confidence for their Premier League survival campaign.
