EPL: Arsenal Snatch Late 1-0 Win Against Forest, Keep Pressure on Man City
Noni Madueke’s deflected late strike earns Arsenal a narrow victory over Nottingham Forest, keeping them within reach of Premier League leaders Manchester City.
Arsenal secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest on Sunday, October 18, thanks to Noni Madueke’s late goal at the City Ground, keeping the Premier League champions in pursuit of leaders Manchester City.
The breakthrough came in the 80th minute when substitute Madueke collected a pass from Declan Rice, cut inside and unleashed a powerful shot that deflected off Forest defender Jair Cunha before beating goalkeeper Matz Sels.
Madueke had entered the match at half-time in place of Eberechi Eze, and his decisive contribution helped Arsenal claim all three points after a frustrating afternoon in front of goal.
Mikel Arteta’s side dominated possession but struggled to create clear chances against a disciplined Forest defence. Arsenal failed to register a shot on target in the first half, and Madueke’s effort proved to be their first on target in the match.
Forest attempted to respond after falling behind, with Murillo firing narrowly wide and Chris Wood seeing a late effort thwarted by Arsenal’s defensive cover. The hosts, however, could not find an equaliser.
The result kept Arsenal close to Manchester City, who had beaten Ipswich Town 3-2 on Saturday. Arsenal moved to within three points of the league leaders, maintaining pressure in the early stages of the title race.
The narrow win also offered a response after Arsenal’s previous away fixture ended in a 3-0 defeat to Brighton. Although the performance lacked attacking fluency, the Gunners showed patience and resilience to secure victory.
Madueke’s impact from the bench underlined Arsenal’s squad depth, while Arteta praised the team’s growing belief in finding ways to win difficult matches.
Arsenal will now turn their attention to their upcoming fixtures as they seek to remain in contention at the top of the table. Nottingham Forest, meanwhile, will look to improve their attacking output after another home match without a goal.
