EPL: Arsenal Brace For Chelsea Test As Spurs Seek Spark
Arsenal and Chelsea carry perfect Premier League records into an early-season test, while Tottenham seek revival this weekend.
Arsenal host Chelsea Sunday as both sides carry perfect Premier League records into an early-season test.
Defending champions Arsenal have opened their title defence with two victories and have yet to concede a league goal. Mikel Arteta’s side followed a 3-0 home win over Coventry City with a disciplined 1-0 victory away at Aston Villa.
The result extended Arsenal’s defensive run, keeping six clean sheets in their last seven league matches overall. Bukayo Saka has also made an encouraging start, scoring in both league games after an injury-disrupted campaign last season.
Chelsea, meanwhile, have begun the Xabi Alonso era with three wins in all competitions. Their attack has looked particularly dangerous, with Joao Pedro, Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers contributing five of the club’s seven league goals in victories over Fulham and Brighton.
However, Chelsea’s defensive performance remains a concern. Alonso’s team has conceded five goals in its opening two league matches, leaving the manager with a clear challenge before facing an Arsenal side that has shown greater defensive solidity.
History also favours Arsenal. Chelsea have failed to beat the Gunners in their last nine Premier League meetings, adding another layer of pressure to Sunday’s encounter at the Emirates Stadium.
While Arsenal and Chelsea prepare for a high-profile contest, Tottenham Hotspur are searching for an immediate turnaround after a disastrous start.
Spurs have lost their opening two league matches, suffering a 3-0 defeat against Brentford before a 2-0 home loss to Newcastle United. The results leave Roberto De Zerbi’s side at the bottom of the table.
Tottenham invested more than £350 million during the summer transfer window, bringing in several high-profile players as part of an attempted rebuilding project. Yet the early performances have offered little evidence of an immediate transformation.
De Zerbi remains confident that Tottenham can avoid another difficult campaign, insisting that two defeats have not changed his belief in his squad.
Spurs now travel to Nottingham Forest on Saturday, facing a team that defeated them twice last season. The fixture therefore represents an important opportunity to stop their slide and begin turning their expensive rebuild into results.
