Enugu Police Arrest Two Suspects, Seize Large Quantity of Illicit Drugs
The Enugu State Police Command has arrested two suspects in Nkanu East for alleged drug trafficking, seizing large quantities of Cannabis Sativa in an intelligence-led operation aimed at disrupting local narcotics supply networks and related criminal activity.
Operatives from the Enugu State Police Command have arrested two suspects for their alleged involvement in illicit drug trafficking and peddling within the Nkanu East Local Government Area of the state.
The arrests were made during targeted, intelligence-led operations designed to crack down on narcotics distribution networks and curb related criminal activities in local communities.
Acting on credible tips regarding the activities of drug syndicates in the area, police operatives intercepted the suspects and conducted an extensive search. The tactical sweep resulted in the recovery of substantial evidence:
- Cannabis Sativa Seizure: Operatives recovered large quantities of compressed wraps and packages of Cannabis Sativa (Indian hemp) ready for local retail distribution.
- Logistical Disruptions: The operation successfully disrupted a localized supply chain that was moving illicit substances through transit points within the local government area.
The state police command confirmed that the suspects are currently in custody and undergoing intensive interrogation to help investigators map out their supply sources and identify other fleeing members of the distribution ring.
Law enforcement officials reiterated that the proactive raid aligns with ongoing security strategies aimed at cutting off the supply of illicit drugs, which authorities have frequently linked to a rise in local thuggery, violent cultism, and rural crime. The suspects will be formally arraigned in court once preliminary investigations are fully completed.
