Emir Of Zazzau Backs 100% Salary Hike for Kaduna Traditional Rulers
The Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, has commended the Kaduna State Government for approving a 100 percent salary and allowance increase for traditional rulers in the state.
The Emir of Zazzau and Chairman of the Kaduna State Council of Traditional Rulers, Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, has backed the 100 percent salary and allowance increment approved for traditional rulers across Kaduna State.
Emir Bamalli described the welfare adjustment as a long-overdue intervention that would significantly alleviate economic pressures on traditional institutions and enhance grassroots governance.
The royal endorsement follows disclosures by the Kaduna State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Sadiq Mamman-Lagos, who revealed that certain village heads in the state had remained on a monthly salary of N26,000 for over 30 years prior to the approval by Governor Uba Sani.
The commissioner noted that Governor Sani immediately approved the comprehensive upward review upon receiving a briefing on the persistent financial constraints faced by traditional leaders.
Emir Bamalli commended the state government's decision, emphasizing that traditional rulers play vital roles in maintaining peace, resolving community disputes, and supporting state security agencies at the local level.
He urged traditional leaders across all cadres—from village heads to paramount chiefs—to reciprocate the gesture by remaining dedicated to public service, promoting communal harmony, and assisting the government in safeguarding lives and property.
