Elumelu Secures House of Representatives Nomination in Delta Amidst Nationwide Primaries

Ndudi Elumelu has successfully secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination for a House of Representatives seat in Delta State. This victory marks a significant development in the ongoing internal party contests as political hopefuls across Nigeria prepare for the 2027 general elections. Reports from across the country indicate a varied landscape in the APC's primary elections. In Gombe State, Governor Inuwa Yahaya commended the generally peaceful conduct of the party's direct primaries, while Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru moved to allay concerns, dismissing claims of parallel congresses and asserting the transparency of the electoral process.

Conversely, Lagos State witnessed disruptions, with police confirming the arrest of ten individuals following outbreaks of violence at primary sites in Alimosho and Mushin. Elsewhere, in Katsina State, Hamza Sule Faskari was adopted as a consensus candidate by local stakeholders. Beyond party politics, national security remains a pressing concern. Former presidential contender Peter Obi voiced strong condemnation of recent school attacks, characterising abducted children as "pawns in a ransom economy" and issuing a stark warning about the potential crisis this poses for the nation's future. Concurrently, authorities in Oyo State have reported that security forces have successfully cornered individuals suspected of involvement in a recent school abduction within the expansive Old Oyo National Park. Adding to the discourse, former President Goodluck Jonathan expressed deep regret that violence has become normalised in Nigeria, lamenting a decline in societal values.

In response to the prevailing national mood, the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria has declared a three-day period of nationwide fasting and prayer. This initiative seeks divine intervention concerning the pervasive insecurity, the country's economic challenges, and for the integrity of the forthcoming 2027 elections.
