El-Rufai Says He Bears No Resentment Towards Those Who Abandoned Him
Former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai says he bears no resentment towards former associates who have distanced themselves from him during his current circumstances.
Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has said he bears no hatred or resentment towards former colleagues, friends and associates who have chosen not to support him during his current circumstances.
El-Rufai, a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, made this known in a statement titled “My Relationships and the Aftermath,” published on his X account on Wednesday.
He said his support for people and causes over the years had been guided by his Islamic faith, Arewa upbringing, personal values and conscience, rather than expectations of praise, gratitude or reciprocity.
The former governor said those he had supported were free to decide how they would respond to his present circumstances, noting that some could speak out, remain silent, distance themselves from previous relationships or deny their association.
He said recent experiences had also caused him to reflect on some of his relationships, adding that adversity could reveal the nature of relationships more clearly.
El-Rufai stressed that such reflection should not be interpreted as condemnation, saying he had no regrets about supporting people or causes whenever he believed doing so was right.
On perceived injustice, ingratitude or injury against him, he said he would not seek revenge or retribution, leaving ultimate accountability to Almighty Allah.
He said his priority was to remain at peace with his conscience and his faith, adding that individuals would ultimately have to live with the choices they made.
