The Ekiti State Government has declared Monday, October 5, a work-free day for teachers in public schools across the state to enable them participate in activities marking the 2026 World Teachers’ Day.
The Commissioner for Education, Dr Olabimpe Aderiye, announced the decision in a statement, directing parents, guardians, school authorities and students to take note of the arrangement.
The declaration means day students in public schools across the state will remain at home on Monday while teachers participate in programmes organised to commemorate the occasion.
Aderiye said the gesture was intended to give teachers adequate opportunity to join other education stakeholders in celebrating the profession and reflecting on their contributions to society.
She commended teachers across the state for their dedication and commitment to educating and mentoring younger generations, noting their important role in the development of Ekiti’s education system.
The commissioner assured teachers of the state government’s continued recognition, support and appreciation for their contributions to education and the development of children.
She congratulated teachers on the 2026 World Teachers’ Day celebration and urged them to sustain their commitment to raising well-educated and responsible children.
