Ekiti ADC Senatorial Candidate Seeks Police Probe Into Campaign Office Attack

African Democratic Congress senatorial candidate for Ekiti North, Funso Ayeni, has called on security and law enforcement authorities to investigate the attack and vandalisation of his campaign office in Ido-Ekiti.

Ayeni made the call on Saturday during an assessment visit to the damaged office, which was inaugurated on Thursday last week.

The candidate condemned the incident, urging authorities to establish what happened and identify those responsible.

He said political disagreements should not lead to destruction of property, intimidation or violence, stressing that political competition should be based on ideas, programmes, accountability and service to the people.

Ayeni urged security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and establish the facts surrounding the damage to the campaign office.

He also appealed to his supporters across the senatorial district to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands.

The ADC candidate said Ekiti State had a politically conscious population and should not allow political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections to degenerate into violence.

He called on politicians and their supporters to pursue disagreements through lawful and peaceful means, saying electoral contests should focus on competing programmes and records.

Ayeni also referred to political violence in Osun State, urging Ekiti political actors to learn from developments elsewhere and prevent similar incidents during the build-up to the 2027 elections.

The candidate said he would continue advocating for a peaceful, issue-based and responsible political environment in Ekiti North and across the state.

He appealed to traditional rulers, community leaders, political parties and security agencies to work together to protect the democratic process and prevent acts capable of creating fear among voters and candidates.

The incident comes as political parties and candidates begin preparations for the 2027 general elections, with campaigns and consultations expected to increase.

Ayeni said the vandalisation should not discourage political participation or peaceful engagement among competing groups.

He maintained that disagreements could be resolved through dialogue and established legal channels rather than attacks on political offices or campaign materials.

He therefore called for prompt action by the authorities to investigate the incident, determine the circumstances surrounding the attack and hold anyone found responsible accountable.
