EFCC Uncovers ‘Chinese-Operated Illegal Refinery’ in Ogun
The EFCC says it has uncovered an illegal refinery allegedly operated by Chinese nationals in Ogun State, as investigations continue into the suspected operation.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has uncovered a suspected illegal refinery allegedly operated by Chinese nationals in Ogun State.
The discovery followed an intelligence-led operation by operatives of the commission, who reportedly found equipment and materials believed to have been used for illegal refining activities.
The EFCC said the operation formed part of its efforts to tackle economic and financial crimes, including illegal activities involving petroleum products and the exploitation of Nigeria’s natural resources.
The commission is expected to investigate the individuals linked to the facility, establish the scale of the operation and determine whether proceeds from the alleged activities were used to finance other criminal activities.
The development comes amid renewed efforts by security and law enforcement agencies to combat illegal economic operations across the country.
Illegal refining and related petroleum activities have been associated with revenue losses, environmental damage and threats to public safety in affected communities.
The EFCC has repeatedly warned that individuals and networks involved in economic crimes would be investigated and prosecuted where sufficient evidence is established.
