EFCC Says Crime-Recovered Institutions are Being Converted into Federal Universities
EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede says assets recovered from criminal activities are being converted into public institutions, including federal universities, to benefit Nigerians.
Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ola Olukoyede, has disclosed that institutions recovered through forfeiture proceedings are being converted into federal universities and other public assets.
Olukoyede said a university recovered from a forfeiture case in Kaduna State had already become the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia.
He disclosed that 1,909 students matriculated at the institution in December 2025, describing the development as an example of how proceeds recovered from crime could be returned to society through productive use.
The EFCC chairman said the former NOK University campus was finally forfeited to the Federal Government before being converted into the federal institution.
He added that the university was expected to generate wider economic benefits for its host community in Southern Kaduna.
Olukoyede also revealed that another private university in Kebbi State had recently been finally forfeited to the Federal Government.
Although he did not name the institution, the EFCC chairman referred to its temporary and permanent sites, as well as a large residence built for its vice-chancellor. The details are consistent with the forfeiture of Rayhaan University and related properties secured by the EFCC in July 2026.
Beyond universities, Olukoyede said the EFCC had secured the forfeiture of 10,053 assets between October 2023 and July 2026.
The assets include real estate, land, vehicles, schools, factories, hotels, oil rigs, barges, machinery and aircraft, as well as 102 tonnes of solid minerals.
He said disposals from the recovered assets had so far returned ₦12.07 billion to the Federal Government.
Olukoyede said the Commission’s objective was not merely to punish offenders but to ensure that assets linked to criminal activities could be redirected towards productive purposes and benefit Nigerians.
