Ebuehi Trains With FC Twente After Empoli Exit
Super Eagles defender Tyronne Ebuehi has returned to FC Twente’s training ground to continue his rehabilitation after becoming a free agent following the expiry of his Empoli contract.
Nigeria international Tyronne Ebuehi has returned to Dutch club FC Twente, where he is currently training with the club’s Under-21 side as he continues his rehabilitation.
Ebuehi returned to Twente’s training ground on Friday, according to reports from the Netherlands, marking a return to a club where he previously enjoyed a productive spell.
The 30-year-old right-back is currently a free agent after his contract with Italian club Empoli expired.
Ebuehi has spent the past few months working on his recovery at Pro-F in Enschede as he continues his rehabilitation from fitness problems that have affected his recent career.
The defender was once regarded as one of Nigeria’s promising players after making his Super Eagles debut against Iceland nine years ago.
However, recurring fitness concerns have limited his appearances for both club and country in recent seasons.
Ebuehi has made five appearances for Nigeria over the past eight years, with his most recent international outing coming in a friendly against Saudi Arabia in October 2023.
His return to FC Twente provides the defender with an opportunity to continue his recovery at a club where he previously made a significant contribution.
Ebuehi featured in 33 of Twente’s 34 Eredivisie matches during the 2020/21 season, helping the club finish 10th in the Dutch top flight.
Although primarily deployed at right-back, he also made three appearances as a central defender during that campaign.
Ebuehi began his professional career in the Netherlands with ADO Den Haag before moving to Benfica. He subsequently played for Venezia and Empoli.
The defender developed through the youth systems of SV Hoofddorp, VV Young Boys and HFC EDO before establishing himself in professional football.
His current training stint at Twente could provide an opportunity to regain full fitness as he considers the next stage of his club career.
