‘Don’t Cry, My Princess’ — Ogogo Told Daughter Weeks Before Death
Ogogo reassured his daughter weeks before his death, urging her to stay strong, trust Allah and avoid crying.
Veteran Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, had an emotional exchange with his daughter, Kira Taiwo, weeks before his death, urging her to remain strong and trust in Allah.
Kira shared the private conversation on her Instagram Story on Monday, following the actor’s death on Sunday at the age of 66.
The exchange, dated July 26, revealed Ogogo reassuring his daughter while encouraging her not to allow fear or sadness to overwhelm her.
In the conversation, the actor told Kira that seeing her and her sisters happy gave him strength. He also expressed concern after hearing that she had been crying.
He wrote, “How are you? I heard you are crying. Seeing you and your sisters smile is making me strong. If you cry, it will make me sad, and I will start to think.”
Ogogo, who was a Muslim, encouraged his daughter to remain strong and place her confidence in Allah.
He added, “Be strong. I am strong. Nothing is going to happen to me, insha Allah. If you do, then don’t cry, my princess.”
Responding to her father, Kira assured him that she was not crying and expressed her faith in Allah.
“Daddy, I’m not crying oo… don’t mind Haleemah. I trust in Allah, sir. I love you very much,” she replied.
Ogogo responded affectionately, saying, “Love u too, my princess.”
The emotional exchange has drawn attention following the actor’s death, as it captured the close relationship between him and his daughter during the final weeks of his life.
Ogogo was a prominent figure in the Yoruba film industry, with a career spanning several decades as an actor and filmmaker. His death has prompted tributes from colleagues, fans and members of the Nigerian entertainment industry.
His family had earlier announced that he would be buried in his hometown, Ilaro, Ogun State, following Islamic rites.
The actor’s passing came after reports of his battle with cancer, with his family publicly discussing the difficulties surrounding his illness and treatment in the weeks preceding his death.
