Davido Clarifies Alleged Attack on Adeleke’s Convoy

Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has clarified reports alleging that the convoy of Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, was attacked by hoodlums on Wednesday.

Reports had emerged that suspected hoodlums engaged security personnel attached to the governor’s convoy in a gun battle at the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji.

The reported incident occurred shortly after Governor Adeleke received his Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission and visited the monarch to celebrate his electoral victory.

However, Davido, who is related to Governor Adeleke, dismissed the reports in a post on his verified X account on Wednesday evening.

The singer said there was indeed a fight outside the monarch’s palace but maintained that it had nothing to do with the governor or his entourage.

“Lies! It was a fight outside the palace that had nothing to do with us. The people love his excellency,” Davido wrote.

His clarification comes after reports of gunfire and panic around the Ataoja’s palace following the governor’s visit.

Earlier reports had quoted eyewitnesses as saying that suspected hoodlums arrived in a Sienna vehicle and engaged security personnel in an exchange of gunfire.

The reported incident allegedly caused traders and residents around the palace to flee their businesses and seek safety.

However, Davido’s statement disputes the account that the incident constituted an attack on the governor’s convoy, insisting that the altercation was separate from Adeleke’s visit.

Governor Adeleke had visited the palace after receiving his Certificate of Return from INEC following his victory in the Osun State governorship election.

Davido’s intervention is expected to clarify the circumstances surrounding the reported disturbance and separate the alleged fight from claims of a direct attack on the governor’s convoy.
