Dangote Refinery’s IPO Closes With Investors From 120 Countries

Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals has concluded its initial public offering (IPO), attracting investor applications from 120 countries across six inhabited continents, including all 54 African nations.

The offer officially closed on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, following an extension approved by the Securities and Exchange Commission to give more investors additional time to participate.

The company described the outcome as a significant milestone for African capital markets, highlighting the broad geographical reach of the offer and efforts to expand public participation in ownership of one of the continent’s largest industrial assets.

The IPO, branded “The People’s IPO”, offered 4.1 billion ordinary shares at ₦525 per share, representing a proposed capital raise of approximately ₦2.15 trillion.

It opened on September 14 and was initially scheduled to close on October 13 before the extension moved the deadline to October 27.

According to the company, the offering attracted applications from investors across all six inhabited continents, demonstrating international interest in the refinery and its long-term prospects.

Aliko Dangote, president and chief executive of Dangote Industries Limited, said the participation of investors from every African country reflected a desire among Africans to own stakes in major businesses established on the continent.

He said the objective extended beyond raising capital to creating opportunities for ordinary investors to participate in the growth of a major African industrial enterprise.

David Bird, managing director and chief executive officer of Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals, said the international response demonstrated interest in the refinery’s operations, scale and future growth.

He added that the company would focus on operational performance, sustainable expansion and delivering long-term value to shareholders.

The offer was supported by commercial banks, stockbroking firms, financial technology platforms and other capital market institutions. Their participation provided multiple channels through which eligible investors could submit applications.

The refinery is pursuing plans to expand its refining and petrochemical operations, strengthen distribution and contribute to reducing Africa’s dependence on imported refined petroleum products.

However, the geographical reach of the IPO does not by itself establish the final number of successful subscribers or the total amount raised. The application verification process and share-allotment procedures are now underway.

The next stage will involve processing applications, determining share allocations and completing the necessary regulatory procedures before investors receive confirmation of their holdings.

The IPO’s final subscription figures and allotment outcome will provide a clearer picture of investor demand and the extent to which the offer achieved its financial objectives.
