Dangote Explores Industrial Expansion Into Egypt
Dangote Group is exploring investment opportunities in Egypt following a visit by a high-level Egyptian delegation to its Lagos industrial complex, as the Nigerian conglomerate advances its pan-African expansion plans.
Dangote Group is considering expanding its industrial investments into Egypt following discussions with a delegation led by the country’s Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, Dr Mohamed Farid Saleh.
The delegation visited the Dangote Industries complex in Lagos, where it held discussions with senior executives on potential investment partnerships, industrial collaboration and opportunities to expand production capacity across key sectors.
The Egyptian officials were accompanied by representatives of the country’s Ministry of Petroleum and senior executives from its oil and petrochemical industries.
President and Chief Executive of Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote, described the engagement as an opportunity to advance African economic integration and strengthen industrial cooperation between the two countries.
He said African businesses needed to invest beyond their home markets to accelerate industrialisation, create economic value and strengthen the continent’s productive capacity.
Dangote added that the visit provided an opportunity to showcase the group’s industrial capabilities while identifying areas where Nigerian and Egyptian businesses could work together.
Saleh said the mission was intended to translate diplomatic and business engagements between both countries into practical investment opportunities.
He noted that Egypt was interested in the group’s experience in petroleum refining, petrochemicals, fertiliser production and related manufacturing activities.
The minister said Nigeria’s energy resources and Egypt’s established industrial base offered opportunities for cooperation in manufacturing, energy, petrochemicals and other strategic sectors.
He stressed that private-sector partnerships would be central to expanding industrial production, attracting investment, transferring technology and creating employment opportunities across both economies.
Saleh also clarified that potential cooperation was not limited to establishing a refinery in Egypt, noting that several other sectors could accommodate mutually beneficial investments.
The discussions form part of Dangote Group’s broader Vision 2030 strategy to expand its industrial presence across Africa and develop stronger regional production networks.
The group has ongoing and proposed investments in cement, fertiliser, petroleum refining, petrochemicals and infrastructure across several African countries.
Although the Egyptian engagement has identified possible areas of cooperation, specific projects, investment values and implementation timelines have not been formally announced.
