Customs Generated N1.38tn Revenue in July, August 2026
The Nigeria Customs Service generated N1.38 trillion in revenue between July and August 2026, with collections boosted by technology-driven operations, improved trade facilitation and stronger enforcement.
The Nigeria Customs Service generated N1.38 trillion in revenue between July and August 2026, its spokesperson, Abdullahi Maiwada, has said.
Maiwada, the National Public Relations Officer of the service, disclosed this on Tuesday during a joint security agencies’ spokespersons’ briefing in Abuja.
He said the service collected N784.66 billion in July and N595.58 billion in August, bringing total revenue for the two months to N1.38 trillion.
The Apapa Area Command recorded N323 billion in revenue in July, its highest monthly collection, while it also set a new single-day revenue record of N28.1 billion on Aug. 18.
Maiwada said the service processed 90,985 Single Goods Declarations during the period, comprising 55,731 in July and 35,254 in August.
He added that 8,873 Pre-Arrival Assessment Reports were also processed across the two months.
On export activities, Maiwada said the Lilypond Export Command recorded $792.57 million in export value in the second quarter of 2026, representing a 24.35 per cent increase from $599.60 million recorded during the corresponding period in 2025.
Agricultural exports accounted for $422.09 million, while manufactured goods reached $350.67 million.
He said export container throughput also increased by 32.27 per cent to 5,510 containers, while collections under the Nigeria Export Supervision Scheme rose by 9.52 per cent to N5.38 billion.
On anti-smuggling operations, Maiwada said Area Commands and Federal Operations Units recorded seizures with a combined Duty Paid Value exceeding N61.3 billion.
He said the seizures included petroleum products, rice, sugar, cannabis, controlled medicines, cigarettes, machinery and elephant tusks.
Among the operations highlighted was the seizure of goods worth N362.2 million by the Adamawa/Taraba Command, including 25,295 litres of Premium Motor Spirit allegedly destined for illegal export to Chad.
The Federal Operations Unit Zone ‘A’ also disrupted a smuggling network involving goods worth N3.24 billion and recovered N728.98 million in lost revenue.
Maiwada attributed the service’s improved performance to technology-driven enforcement and stronger collaboration with other security agencies.
He said continued inter-agency cooperation would remain important to strengthening national security, trade facilitation and the Customs Service’s contribution to economic stability.
