Court Grants Doris Ogala ₦30m Bail Over Alleged Cyberstalking

The Federal High Court in Lagos has granted Nollywood actress Doris Ogala bail in the sum of ₦30 million over allegations of cyberstalking, cyberbullying and attempted extortion involving Pastor Chris Okafor.

Justice Akintayo Aluko granted the bail on Friday, November 6, 2026, requiring the actress to provide two sureties in like sum.

The judge also ordered Ogala to surrender her international passport to the court registrar and restrained her from making electronic publications capable of harassing, threatening or intimidating prosecution witnesses.

Justice Aluko said the conditions were designed to balance the defendant’s constitutional right to liberty with the need to ensure her attendance at trial and protect the integrity of the proceedings.

The judge expressed concern over Ogala’s conduct during a previous court sitting on October 28, when her behaviour disrupted proceedings and forced the court to adjourn several other cases.

He, however, acknowledged that the actress had apologised for her conduct and emphasised that she remained presumed innocent under the Constitution.

The court directed that one of the sureties must either own a verifiable property in Lagos State or be a prominent national officer of Ogala’s political party or a person of recognised standing.

Both sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, demonstrate reliable financial means and provide tax clearance certificates covering the last three years, alongside recent passport photographs.

The judge further ordered Ogala to maintain good behaviour and avoid misconduct within the courtroom and its premises throughout the trial.

Ogala was arraigned by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation on three counts relating to alleged cyberstalking, cyberbullying and attempted extortion involving Pastor Okafor.

The prosecution accused her of publishing intimate photographs of the cleric without his consent, circulating electronic messages allegedly containing false information and threatening to release further damaging material unless he compensated her or bought her a house.

The actress pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Her defence counsel argued that the offences were bailable and assured the court that she would not interfere with witnesses or evade trial.

The prosecution, however, urged the court to impose strict conditions, citing concerns about possible harassment or intimidation of witnesses through social media.

Ogala’s counsel also informed the court that she was receiving treatment at a hospital following a gynaecological surgery.

The judge ordered that she be released from custody once all the bail conditions are fulfilled. The criminal case will continue while the allegations remain subject to judicial determination.
