A coalition comprising the South East Village Boys (SEVB), South East Electricity Consumers Association (SEECA) and South East Equity Group (SEEG) has declared support for Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi and the party’s Enugu State governorship candidate, Chinyeaka Ohaa, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The coalition made the declaration at a strategic meeting of the three groups in Enugu, where members reviewed the socio-economic situation in the country and South-East region.

Coordinator of the coalition, Rev Okechukwu Obioha, said the decision followed an assessment of the candidates’ track records, equity and the need for effective leadership at federal and state levels.

He said the South-East deserved an opportunity to produce the President, arguing that the region had not occupied the executive leadership of Nigeria since independence.

Obioha said the coalition was seeking a four-year presidential term for the South-East, after which power could return to the North in line with the region’s preferred power-sharing arrangement.

The coalition also criticised the administration of President Bola Tinubu, alleging that it had failed to deliver on key campaign promises, particularly in the economy and power sector.

Obioha expressed concern over electricity supply in the South-East, saying the region was experiencing worsening power shortages despite previous assurances by the Federal Government.

He praised Obi’s proposed plan to generate, transmit and distribute 10,000 megawatts of electricity, describing it as a strategy capable of reviving Nigeria’s industrial base.

On Enugu politics, Obioha criticised Governor Peter Mbah’s alignment with the All Progressives Congress, describing the decision as contrary to the political mood in the South-East.

He said Ohaa’s experience as a former Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Power made him suitable to address the state’s infrastructure and electricity challenges.

The coalition said it considered the combination of Obi at the federal level and Ohaa in Enugu under the NDC platform the strongest option for development, economic revival and improved electricity supply in the region.

Earlier, National Chairman of the South East Village Boys, Chief Maxi Okwu, urged Nigerians to participate actively in the 2027 elections, saying voting remained the means of removing ineffective leadership.
