Chioma Chukwuka Announces Father’s Death
Veteran actress Chioma Chukwuka-Akpotha has announced the death of her father in an emotional social media post, revealing she now has neither parent living, 13 years after losing her mother.
Nollywood actress Chioma Chukwuka-Akpotha has announced the death of her father, Mr Leonard Ndukaife Chukwuka, sharing the news in an emotional post on her social media platforms.
The actress said she found it difficult to put her grief into the right words, describing her late father using several affectionate terms in her native Igbo and in English, "daddy," "papa'm," "obara'm," and "comfort."
Reflecting on the loss of her mother, Mrs Grace Chukwuka, who died 13 years ago, Chukwuka-Akpotha said her father's passing has now left her without either parent. "My beloved father, Leonard Ndukaife Chukwuka, has gone to be with the Lord. I lost my mother 13 years ago and now that my father is gone, the thought that I have neither parent here anymore breaks my heart in a way I cannot fully explain. So na only me bayi?" she wrote.
The actress expressed gratitude to God that her father lived a long life and was able to see his children and grandchildren grow. She recalled precious moments they shared, particularly in his final years, reflecting on how no amount of time spent with a parent ever feels like enough. "No matter how many years we are given with a parent, we still want one more conversation, one more embrace, one more day," she added.
According to Chukwuka-Akpotha, she had kept the news private for a period while trying to process her grief, before deciding to share the loss publicly. She appealed to the public to keep her, her siblings, and the entire Chukwuka family in their prayers during this period, adding that funeral arrangements would be announced once the family is ready.
Chioma Chukwuka-Akpotha is one of Nollywood's most recognisable and enduring actresses, having built a career spanning several decades across the Nigerian film industry. Her announcement has drawn an outpouring of condolence messages from fans, colleagues, and members of the public following the post, reflecting the wide affection she has built over her long-running career in Nigerian cinema.
