Chinda Emerges Rivers APC Governorship Candidate
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared Kingsley Chinda as its governorship candidate for Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Chairman of the party’s governorship primary election committee and returning officer, Bitrus Kwamoti, announced the result on Thursday in Port Harcourt.
Kwamoti made the declaration at the APC Secretariat in Port Harcourt after receiving results from collation officers across the 23 local government areas of the state.
He stated that the exercise was duly conducted in line with the party’s constitution and guidelines, adding that the process was completed without major disruptions.
According to him, Chinda emerged as the sole aspirant in the contest and secured a total of 268,497 votes.
“I, Kwamoti Bitrus, chairman of the Governorship Primary Election Committee, hereby certify that I am the Returning Officer for the Rivers State Governorship Primary Election held on 21st May, 2026,” he said.
“The name of the aspirant, who is the sole aspirant, is Chinda Ogundu Kingsley. He scored the total number of votes, 268,497.”
Kwamoti added that having met all requirements of the APC constitution and guidelines, Chinda was duly declared winner of the primary election and officially elected as the party’s governorship candidate for Rivers State.
The Rivers APC primary attracted attention amid the ongoing political tension in the state and reports of internal divisions within party structures.
