China has denied providing Iran with intelligence used ahead of a missile attack on a United States military base in Jordan that killed three American soldiers.

The denial followed reports that Iranian forces obtained high-resolution satellite imagery from Chinese sources before the July 17 strike on Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in northeastern Jordan.

The attack killed three US service members and wounded four others after Iranian ballistic missiles struck an area where American troops were sleeping.

US officials have reportedly linked the Chinese-sourced imagery to the attack, describing it as evidence that Chinese assistance to Iran may have had deadly consequences for American forces. However, the officials have not publicly identified the Chinese entities involved or accused the Chinese government of directly ordering or facilitating the strike.

The reports said Iran obtained satellite images both before and after the attack, potentially enabling its forces to identify military facilities, assess changes at the base and evaluate the damage caused by the strike.

The development has raised fresh concerns in Washington over the transfer of Chinese technology and data to Iran, particularly as Tehran seeks to improve its ability to monitor US military positions.

US officials had previously warned their Chinese counterparts about the supply of satellite imagery to Iran, according to reports.

China's position contrasts with the allegations, with Beijing rejecting claims that it provided assistance that could have enabled the attack.

The issue has also emerged ahead of a planned meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, adding another sensitive issue to relations between the two countries.
