Chelle Warns NPFL Stars: No Guaranteed Places in Super Eagles Squad
Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle has told NPFL players in his squad that selection is strictly based on merit, urging them to prove themselves in camp as he continues assessing both local and foreign-based players ahead of upcoming fixtures.
Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has urged Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) players in his squad to fight for their place, insisting that national team selection is based strictly on performance and merit.
Chelle made it clear that being invited to camp is not a guarantee of making the final squad, stressing that every player must prove they deserve to remain at international level.
The coach has been actively monitoring domestic league talents as part of his rebuilding process, giving several NPFL stars opportunities to train alongside Europe-based players in recent camps.
He emphasised that competition within the team is healthy and necessary, especially as Nigeria prepares for upcoming international fixtures where squad depth will be tested.
The Super Eagles are currently using training sessions to assess both new invitees and established players, with Chelle expected to make further evaluations before finalising his preferred squad selection.
