Cardiff Hotels Sell Out as Joshua, Fury Date Emerges

Hotels across Cardiff are reportedly selling out as anticipation grows over a potential Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury heavyweight showdown in the Welsh capital.

December 12 has emerged as the leading date for the proposed all-British clash, although an official announcement has yet to be made. Cardiff’s Principality Stadium is currently regarded as the leading venue, with Wembley also previously considered during negotiations.

The growing demand for accommodation has provided another indication of the interest surrounding the fight. The Parkgate hotel, operated by the Welsh Rugby Union and located beside Principality Stadium, reportedly has no rooms available for the weekend of December 12.

The city-centre Marriott and Holiday Inn are also understood to have sold out for December 12, while December 11 remains a possible alternative date.

The fight has been the subject of negotiations for months, with disagreements over the venue becoming one of the major issues. Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, has maintained that his fighter’s contractual arrangements require the bout to take place in the United Kingdom.

A move to the United States, particularly Madison Square Garden in New York, had previously been discussed, partly because of broadcasting considerations. However, Hearn has repeatedly stated that Joshua wants the fight staged in Britain.

Cardiff has gained momentum because Principality Stadium can accommodate a late start time that could suit international television audiences. Its retractable roof is another factor being considered for a major winter event.

Tyson Fury’s manager, Spencer Brown, said earlier this month that negotiations remained ongoing but expressed confidence that the fight would take place. He identified Cardiff and Wembley among the venues still under consideration.

The exact date, venue and commercial arrangements remain subject to final agreements between the fighters’ representatives, promoters, broadcaster and other stakeholders.

The Joshua-Fury bout has been discussed for years, with previous negotiations repeatedly failing to produce a completed contest. Both fighters are former world heavyweight champions, and a meeting between them has remained one of boxing’s most anticipated potential matchups.

For Cardiff businesses, however, preparations appear to be moving ahead of the formal announcement. Rising hotel demand and limited availability could provide a significant boost to the city’s hospitality sector if the fight is ultimately confirmed for Principality Stadium.

Until contracts are completed and the organisers make an official announcement, December 12 remains a reported target rather than a confirmed fight date.
