Bye-Elections: APC Wins Four Seats as APM Takes One in Bauchi

The All Progressives Congress has won four of the five legislative seats contested in Saturday’s bye-elections across Gombe, Kano, Bauchi and Delta states, while the Allied Peoples Movement secured one seat in Bauchi.

The elections, conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission, comprised one federal constituency and four state assembly constituencies.

In Gombe State, APC candidate Kallamu Usman MaiJama’a won the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency bye-election with 41,121 votes.

The Labour Party polled 3,553 votes, while the APM scored 872 votes in the contest.

In Kano State, APC candidate Husseini Yusuf-Datti emerged victorious in the Dawakin Kudu State Constituency bye-election with 22,890 votes.

The Peoples Redemption Party recorded 270 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party polled 108 votes. Other candidates also participated in the contest.

In Delta State, APC candidate Okolosi Ator won the Udu State Constituency bye-election with 8,724 votes, defeating his closest rival, PDP candidate George Orugbo, who scored 214 votes.

The two bye-elections conducted in Bauchi State produced different outcomes for the two major parties.

In Disina State Constituency, APC candidate Yakubu Ali emerged winner with 5,846 votes, while the APM candidate scored 5,225 votes and the Peoples Redemption Party recorded 3,701 votes.

However, the APM secured victory in the Sakwa State Constituency of Zaki Local Government Area, where its candidate, Adamu Yakubu, polled 8,515 votes.

The APC candidate scored 3,771 votes, while the PDP and PRP recorded 2,076 and 727 votes respectively.

The results gave the APC four of the five seats contested across the four states, with the APM taking the remaining seat.

The APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, congratulated the party’s successful candidates and commended INEC, security agencies and other stakeholders involved in the elections.

He urged the winners to remain committed to serving their constituents and delivering effective representation.

The elections were generally reported as peaceful, although there were concerns over low voter turnout in parts of Gombe and Kano, while technical challenges involving the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System were reported in Delta.

In Bauchi, police also reported the arrest of 47 suspects during the elections.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, said the bye-elections would provide operational lessons for the commission as it prepares for future elections, including the 2027 general elections.
