Bunmi Nelson Regrets Ignoring Funke Akindele’s Offer

Nollywood actress Bunmi Nelson has expressed regret over turning down an opportunity to work with filmmaker and actress Funke Akindele, describing it as one of the biggest opportunities she has missed in her career.

Nelson disclosed this while reflecting on her journey in the Nigerian film industry and some of the decisions that shaped her career.

The actress said she failed to recognise the value of Akindele’s offer at the time, a decision she now considers a major missed opportunity.

According to her, she did not fully understand what the collaboration could have meant for her career and the exposure it could have provided.

Nelson acknowledged Akindele’s influence in Nollywood, particularly her ability to identify and develop talent while creating opportunities for other actors and filmmakers.

She said looking back, she would have handled the opportunity differently and advised upcoming actors to pay closer attention to opportunities presented to them by established figures in the industry.

The actress also reflected on the challenges of building a career in Nollywood, noting that talent alone was not always enough to succeed without the right opportunities, relationships and decisions.

Nelson said her experience had taught her to be more deliberate about career choices and to recognise opportunities that could contribute to her growth.

She added that she remained grateful for the lessons learned from her experiences in the industry and was focused on making better decisions going forward.
