Benue APC Faction Condemns Obi Convoy Blockade
A faction of the APC in Benue State has condemned the blockade of Peter Obi’s convoy, saying political differences should not undermine freedom of movement.
A faction of the All Progressives Congress in Benue State has condemned the reported blockade of the convoy of Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Peter Obi, during his visit to the state.
The faction said the incident was unacceptable and called for an investigation to establish those responsible for obstructing Obi’s movement.
Obi’s convoy was reportedly blocked by youths along Gboko Road near the Nigerian Air Force Base in Makurdi on Tuesday while he was travelling to Yelwata in Guma Local Government Area to sympathise with families affected by recent killings.
The protesters reportedly barricaded the road and chanted against Obi, forcing his convoy to stop.
Obi said he was in Benue for a humanitarian visit and alleged that youths had been mobilised to prevent him from reaching the affected community.
The Benue State Government denied involvement, saying it was unaware of Obi’s visit and did not support the use of thugs to obstruct political activities.
The Benue Police Command confirmed that its operatives provided security for Obi’s movement and said the circumstances surrounding the blockade were being investigated.
The APC faction urged political actors to respect democratic principles and allow opposition candidates to move freely across the state.
It also called on security agencies to identify those responsible for the incident and ensure that political disagreements do not escalate into violence ahead of the 2027 elections.
