Bayern’s Musiala Reveals ‘Neurological Disorder’ After On-Field Collapse
Bayern midfielder Jamal Musiala reveals a treatable neurological disorder after collapsing during a pre-season match against Heidenheim.
Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala has revealed that he is receiving treatment for a neurological disorder after experiencing a second on-field collapse within three days.
The 23-year-old Germany international suffered the latest incident on Tuesday during Bayern’s pre-season friendly against Heidenheim, just minutes after coming on as a substitute.
Musiala appeared dazed and required medical attention before being helped from the pitch.
The incident came only three days after a similar episode during Bayern Munich’s home victory over RB Leipzig, raising concerns about the midfielder’s health.
Musiala later addressed the situation on social media, explaining that he had been diagnosed with brief episodes of absence caused by a neurological dysfunction.
According to the midfielder, the condition can result in temporary but treatable seizures.
“I have been diagnosed with brief, temporary episodes of absence that are easily treatable and are caused by a neurological dysfunction,” Musiala said.
He explained that the condition was responsible for the incidents witnessed during the matches against Leipzig and Heidenheim.
Musiala acknowledged that the episodes could appear frightening to observers but said he had become accustomed to managing the condition.
“I know that they may seem scary at first glance – but for me, they are currently simply part of my everyday life,” he added.
The Bayern midfielder expressed appreciation for the messages of support he had received following the incidents.
He also assured fans that he was receiving appropriate medical attention and remained optimistic about his condition.
“I am receiving the best possible medical care in this regard, and I am very optimistic,” Musiala said.
Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl had earlier indicated after Tuesday’s match that Musiala would address the situation himself.
Eberl confirmed that the club was already aware of the condition and was monitoring the situation.
“Jamal will speak about this in the near future. We knew about it and we are aware of the situation,” Eberl said.
Musiala has become one of Bayern’s most important players since establishing himself in the club’s senior team, while also playing a key role for Germany.
