Bandits Allegedly Attack Operation Burst Base in Oyo

Suspected bandits reportedly attacked an Operation Burst base located within a forest reserve along the Igbeti–Igboho axis in Oorelope Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The incident reportedly occurred between 5:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 13, 2026, when armed men allegedly invaded the security base.

A security update from the Oorelope Local Government Command said a distress call was received concerning the attack, prompting the immediate mobilisation of security personnel to the area.

Operatives from the command, alongside personnel from other sister security agencies, reportedly moved towards the base. However, the attackers had fled before the security team arrived.

Preliminary information indicated that the attackers allegedly stormed the base in large numbers and opened fire on security personnel with powerful weapons.

The assailants were also suspected of attempting to overrun the security post, kill the personnel stationed there and take away their weapons.

Following the incident, security operatives reportedly combed the surrounding area and launched efforts to locate the fleeing attackers, but no arrest was made.

No casualty was recorded among the security personnel, according to the security update.

However, the attackers allegedly set fire to a block within the Operation Burst base and a patrol van, causing significant damage to both facilities.

The Oorelope Local Government Command said investigations and security operations were ongoing, with further details expected as more information becomes available.

The reported attack comes amid continuing security concerns in parts of Oyo State, particularly areas bordering forest reserves and communities along the Igbeti–Igboho axis.

Security agencies are expected to intensify surveillance and patrols around the affected area as efforts continue to identify those responsible for the attack.

The incident has also renewed attention on the vulnerability of security posts located in isolated forest areas, where criminal groups can exploit difficult terrain and limited access to launch attacks.

Authorities have yet to establish the identities of the attackers or confirm their affiliation, while investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
