Baba-Ahmed Says Obi Remains His Boss, Could Have Helped in Benue

Former Labour Party vice-presidential candidate Datti Baba-Ahmed has described Peter Obi as his “boss”, saying he could have helped the former Anambra governor during the recent incident involving his convoy in Benue State.

Baba-Ahmed made the clarification while responding to criticism over his recent assessment that none of the presidential candidates seeking to succeed President Bola Tinubu in 2027, including Obi, currently had the capacity to fix Nigeria.

Speaking on the Naija Unfiltered Podcast, he said his political differences with Obi had not affected their personal relationship.

Baba-Ahmed, who was Obi’s running mate on the Labour Party ticket in the 2023 presidential election, said he remained close enough to contact the former governor directly.

He said Obi could have called him during the Benue incident, adding that he believed he could have assisted in resolving the situation.

“He knows I could have helped out in Benue,” Baba-Ahmed said, while stressing that his relationship with Obi remained strong.

His comments followed backlash over an earlier interview in which he said President Tinubu should step aside and argued that none of those seeking to replace him in 2027 had the capacity to transform the country.

When asked whether the assessment included Obi, Baba-Ahmed had responded in the affirmative.

The latest clarification was aimed at distinguishing his assessment of Obi’s political capacity from their personal relationship, with Baba-Ahmed maintaining that he still regarded the former governor as his boss.
