Augsburg Midfielder Scores Fastest Goal in Bundesliga History Against Bayern Munich
Robin Fellhauer scored after just eight seconds to set a Bundesliga record as Augsburg held Bayern Munich to a 2-2 draw.
Augsburg midfielder Robin Fellhauer made Bundesliga history on Saturday after scoring the fastest goal in the competition’s history, finding the net just eight seconds into his side’s match against Bayern Munich.
The 2-2 draw at Augsburg’s home ground began with a costly mistake by Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. Bayern kicked off and played the ball back to Neuer, who took a heavy touch before attempting to chip the onrushing Fellhauer.
The Augsburg midfielder anticipated the clearance, intercepted the ball and calmly tapped it into the unguarded net to give the hosts an immediate lead.
Fellhauer’s strike broke the previous Bundesliga record of nine seconds, jointly held by Kevin Volland and Karim Bellarabi. Volland scored for Hoffenheim against Bayern in 2015, while Bellarabi found the net for Bayer Leverkusen against Borussia Dortmund in 2014.
Despite the early setback, Bayern gradually regained control of the contest and created several opportunities to equalise. However, Augsburg maintained their advantage until the second half.
Bayern drew level in the 55th minute through Ismael Saibari, who finished after a move involving Harry Kane.
Augsburg restored their lead in the 64th minute when Rodrigo Ribeiro scored following another error by Neuer, whose attempted punch sent the ball into the forward’s path.
The visitors continued to press and found a second equaliser in the 80th minute. Nathaniel Brown converted after Kane supplied the decisive pass, ensuring Bayern avoided defeat.
Bayern pushed for a winner in the closing stages, with Serge Gnabry hitting the post, but Augsburg held on to secure a point.
The result denied Bayern the opportunity to capitalise fully on Borussia Dortmund’s 2-2 draw against Werder Bremen on Friday.
Fellhauer’s record-breaking goal nevertheless remained the defining moment of the match, giving Augsburg a place in Bundesliga history and leaving Bayern to reflect on costly defensive errors.
