Aston Villa Remain Winless, Forest Fume Over VAR in Spurs Draw
Aston Villa remain without a Premier League win or goal after three matches, while Nottingham Forest were denied a late winner against Tottenham after a VAR handball decision.
Aston Villa’s difficult start to the Premier League season continued with a goalless draw against newly promoted Hull City, while Nottingham Forest were held 0-0 by Tottenham after a controversial VAR decision ruled out Neco Williams’ goal.
Villa remain without a win after three matches, having previously lost to Brighton and Arsenal, and have yet to score in the league this season.
Nicolas Jackson, Ross Barkley and John McGinn all had opportunities to break the deadlock, while Hull came closest when Mohamed Belloumi’s effort struck the crossbar.
The result leaves Hull unbeaten with seven points from three matches, while Villa have just one point.
At the City Ground, Forest thought they had taken the lead when Williams bundled the ball into the net following a scramble in the box.
However, referee Craig Pawson initially awarded the goal before VAR intervened and ruled that Williams had handled the ball immediately before scoring.
Forest manager Oliver Glasner criticised the decision, arguing that the available evidence was not clear enough to overturn the referee’s original call.
Williams also rejected the handball decision, insisting that he had headed the ball between his arms.
Tottenham earned their first point of the season but remain without a Premier League goal after three matches.
