Arsenal held on to secure a 2-1 victory over Slavia Prague in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, despite facing intense pressure in the second half.

The Gunners took control early at the Fortuna Arena, with Noni Madueke opening the scoring in the ninth minute after receiving a through ball from Viktor Gyökeres.

Arsenal continued to dominate and doubled their advantage in the 38th minute. Gyökeres collected a pass from Mikel Merino before driving into the penalty area and firing a right-footed effort into the top corner.

The visitors appeared comfortable at half-time, having restricted Slavia to just one attempt in the opening period.

However, the Czech side returned with renewed attacking intent after the break, forcing Arsenal into a prolonged defensive effort.

Slavia created several opportunities, with goalkeeper David Raya making important saves to preserve his side's advantage. He also produced an excellent stop to push an Oskar Kubiak header against the post.

Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhães further helped protect the lead with a crucial goal-line clearance as the hosts increased the pressure.

Slavia eventually reduced the deficit in the 90th minute when Wiktor Nowak scored from close range following a cross from David Jurásek.

The late goal set up a tense finish, but Arsenal managed to withstand the remaining attacks and secure all three points.

The victory was Arsenal's third in four Champions League matches this season, extending their unbeaten start in the competition and moving them up to third in the league-phase standings.

The result also continued the London club's strong European away form, although their second-half performance exposed defensive vulnerabilities that will require attention.

Arsenal, who finished runners-up in last season's competition, will take encouragement from their first-half display and Gyökeres' contribution, but will also recognise the need to maintain control throughout matches against strong opposition.
