Arsenal Loanee Nwaneri Sparks Dortmund Comeback Win in Bundesliga Debut

Borussia Dortmund completed a comeback against Hoffenheim, recovering from two goals down to win 3-2 in the Bundesliga, with Arsenal loanee Ethan Nwaneri playing a decisive role on his league debut.

Hoffenheim controlled the opening 60 minutes and established a two-goal advantage through Leon Avdullahu and Tim Lemperle. Dortmund struggled to impose themselves before beginning their turnaround in the final 30 minutes.

Nwaneri entered the game after 30 minutes, replacing the injured Filippo Mane. The 19-year-old had only recently joined Dortmund from Arsenal on a season-long loan and was immediately thrown into Bundesliga action.

Dortmund reduced the deficit in the 61st minute when Serhou Guirassy capitalised on an opportunity to put the visitors back into contention. Five minutes later, Guirassy turned provider, setting up Fabio Silva, who finished to level the contest.

The comeback was completed four minutes from the end of normal time, with Nwaneri at the centre of the moment.

Nwaneri drove forward from the left before attempting to send the ball across goal. His effort took a deflection from Hoffenheim defender Albian Hajdari and flew into the net, giving Dortmund a 3-2 lead.

Although the goal was officially recorded as an own goal against Hajdari, Nwaneri’s contribution was crucial because his attacking run and attempt created the opportunity that produced the winner.

The victory began Nwaneri’s loan spell. He joined Dortmund on deadline day after Arsenal sent the youngster out for another period of senior experience.

Nwaneri became the youngest player in Premier League history when he made his Arsenal debut, and his move to Dortmund is intended to accelerate his development.

Dortmund’s victory was particularly impressive because Hoffenheim appeared in control after doubling their advantage. However, the visitors responded with three goals in the final 30 minutes to complete the turnaround.
