Army Graduates New Special Forces Battalion in Nasarawa
The Nigerian Army has graduated a new Special Forces battalion after six months of intensive training to strengthen counter-terrorism operations nationwide.
The Nigerian Army has graduated a new Special Forces battalion in Nasarawa State as part of efforts to strengthen counter-terrorism operations and respond to emerging security threats across the country.
The graduation ceremony took place on Friday, October 9, 2026, at the Nigerian Army Special Forces School in Doma, Nasarawa State.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, said the new battalion would enhance the Army’s ability to conduct specialised operations, navigate difficult terrain and dismantle terrorist and criminal networks.
According to the Army, the development is part of efforts to improve operational readiness following the expansion of its divisions from eight to 12.
Shaibu explained that the expansion requires additional specialised personnel and capabilities to sustain military operations and extend security coverage across the country.
He said the new battalion would strengthen field formations’ ability to respond to evolving threats, including the use of drones, improvised explosive devices and other tactics employed by armed groups.
The soldiers underwent six months of intensive training designed to improve their combat skills, physical endurance, resilience and adaptability to challenging operational environments.
The Commandant of the Nigerian Army Special Forces School, Brigadier General Umar Abubakar, said the training involved rigorous physical and tactical exercises intended to prepare the graduates for specialised military assignments.
Shaibu commended the instructors and training partners for their contributions to developing a highly trained and adaptable force capable of undertaking demanding operations.
The graduation comes amid ongoing efforts by the Nigerian Army to strengthen its capacity to tackle terrorism, banditry and other security challenges affecting different parts of the country.
The Army said the newly trained personnel would contribute to improving operational effectiveness and supporting military formations responding to evolving threats.
The development also reflects the military’s broader focus on specialised training and force expansion as it seeks to improve its response to Nigeria’s complex security environment.
