Army Deploys New Battalion, Artillery Regiment to Kano to Tackle Insecurity
The Nigerian Army has deployed the newly established 24 Battalion in Tudun Wada and 311 Artillery Regiment in Dambatta, Kano State, to strengthen its operational presence and improve responses to security threats.
The Nigerian Army has established two new military formations in Kano State as part of efforts to strengthen security operations and improve its response to emerging threats across the North-West.
The formations, comprising the 24 Battalion in Tudun Wada and the 311 Artillery Regiment in Dambatta, were visited by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division, Major General Abubakar Sadique Muhammad Wase, during an operational assessment tour from October 28 to 29.
Wase, who also commands Sector 1 of the Joint Task Force, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, assessed the units’ readiness and engaged with personnel on their responsibilities and the objectives behind their establishment.
Addressing the troops, he said the newly established formations required resilience, dedication and collective commitment to achieve their operational goals.
He assured the personnel that the division was working closely with the Kano State Government to accelerate the units’ progress towards full operational capability.
The GOC identified troop welfare and logistical support as key priorities, stressing that adequate support would be necessary for the formations to discharge their duties effectively.
During the visit, Wase, accompanied by the Commander of 3 Brigade, Brigadier General Saka Jimoh, also held engagements with local government officials in Dambatta and Tudun Wada.
He called on the host communities to cooperate with the military and support the newly deployed formations in efforts to strengthen security across the state.
The engagement highlighted the importance of collaboration between military personnel, local authorities and residents in addressing security challenges and supporting operations in affected areas.
The establishment of the two formations forms part of the Nigerian Army’s broader restructuring and expansion programme aimed at increasing its operational reach, improving command effectiveness and enabling faster responses to security threats.
The Army has been expanding its force structure under a plan approved by President Bola Tinubu to increase the number of divisions from eight to 12, alongside the recruitment of additional personnel and improvements in equipment and troop welfare.
Kano has faced security concerns involving attacks, abductions and other violent incidents in some communities, prompting calls for stronger security deployments and improved coordination among security agencies.
The Federal Government has also outlined plans to strengthen security operations in the state through additional equipment and longer-term defence planning.
The Army said the new formations would contribute to its efforts to strengthen the country’s security architecture and improve operational responsiveness.
