Army Chief Inaugurates 49 Projects to Improve Personnel Welfare
Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu has inaugurated 49 welfare and infrastructure projects nationwide, including accommodation facilities in Abuja, to improve living conditions, strengthen morale and enhance operational efficiency.
The Nigerian Army has inaugurated 49 welfare and infrastructure projects across the country to address accommodation challenges, improve personnel welfare and strengthen operational effectiveness.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, disclosed this on Thursday during the commissioning of a newly constructed Officers Transit Accommodation at Life Camp in Abuja.
The facility was among 11 projects commissioned in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), while the remaining 38 were inaugurated across Nigerian Army formations and units nationwide.
Shaibu said the projects aligned with his command philosophy, particularly the principles of Sound Administration and the Soldier First Concept, which place the welfare of military personnel at the centre of efforts to build a professional, adaptable and combat-ready force.
He explained that adequate accommodation and functional infrastructure were essential to improving troop morale, increasing productivity and strengthening the Army’s capacity to discharge its constitutional responsibilities.
The Army chief said the projects reflected the service’s commitment to providing suitable living and working environments for officers, soldiers and their families.
He urged officers assigned to the newly commissioned transit accommodation to maintain the facility properly and uphold high standards of discipline and responsibility.
Shaibu also reaffirmed his commitment to sustained investment in welfare facilities and infrastructure across military formations and units, while expressing appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for his continued support for the Nigerian Army.
Earlier, the Chief of Logistics (Army), Major General Adekunle Adeyinka, said the Officers Transit Accommodation was developed to address temporary housing difficulties experienced by officers posted to Army Headquarters and other formations in Abuja.
He explained that the facility comprised furnished, self-contained apartments equipped with modern amenities to accommodate officers awaiting permanent residential allocation.
Adeyinka said the accommodation would improve personnel welfare and administrative efficiency by providing suitable temporary housing for officers during transitions between postings.
He added that access to appropriate accommodation would help ease the difficulties associated with relocation and enable officers to settle into their new assignments more effectively.
During the visit, Shaibu also inspected ongoing infrastructure projects at Life Camp, including additional accommodation blocks, road rehabilitation and drainage works.
He expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of construction but directed contractors to comply strictly with approved timelines and project specifications.
The directive, according to the Army, was intended to ensure that infrastructure projects were delivered to the required standards and provided lasting benefits to personnel.
The inauguration of the 49 projects forms part of the Nigerian Army’s continuing efforts to address infrastructure deficits and improve conditions across its formations.
The service said improved accommodation and supporting facilities would contribute to personnel welfare while creating a more conducive environment for training, administration and military operations in support of national security.
