Arewa Group Vows to Mobilise Northern Votes for Tinubu in 2027
The Arewa for Asiwaju group has pledged to mobilise voters across northern Nigeria to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, promising to expand grassroots engagement and communicate the administration’s projects and policies across the region.
A northern political support group, Arewa for Asiwaju (A4A), has declared its intention to secure increased votes for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election through coordinated mobilisation across the 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The group made the commitment during a meeting with the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
Led by its Board of Trustees Chairman, Ibrahim Shekarau, the delegation said it was established to strengthen support for Tinubu and improve voter participation in the northern region.
Shekarau said the group intended to increase the number of votes secured by the President in the North compared with the 2023 election, adding that it had reviewed previous election results to identify areas where turnout could be improved.
He noted that voter apathy had remained a challenge across Nigeria and said the group would focus on grassroots engagement to encourage greater participation in the forthcoming election.
Shekarau explained that A4A had established 20 directorates with specific responsibilities and compiled information on government projects and programmes in northern states.
He said the initiative would help communicate the administration’s activities to residents and address claims that the region had been neglected.
The group has also appointed coordinators at state, local government and ward levels to organise its activities. Its leadership said the structure was designed to improve coordination and reach communities across the region.
Former Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong, who serves as deputy chairman of the group’s Board of Trustees, described the organisation as a reserve of experienced political leaders ready to support the APC’s electoral efforts.
He said its membership included former governors, former presiding officers of the National Assembly, serving ministers and senators.
Responding, Yilwatda commended the group for bringing together political figures from different parts of the North and said the APC would work with it to strengthen support for Tinubu and the party’s candidates in the 2027 elections.
He cited infrastructure projects and other government initiatives in the region as areas the group could highlight in its engagement with voters.
The APC chairman also urged members to extend their mobilisation beyond the presidential contest to include National Assembly, governorship and state legislative elections.
The group’s campaign comes amid increasing political activity ahead of the 2027 general election, with political organisations and party leaders seeking to consolidate support across the country.
Vice-President Kashim Shettima has also expressed confidence that the North would give Tinubu more votes in 2027 than the 60.2 per cent of his 2023 votes attributed to the region.
A4A said its mobilisation efforts would focus on engaging communities, communicating government policies and coordinating supporters through its structures across northern Nigeria.
