APGA Backs Soludo’s Appointment to APC Presidential Campaign Council

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has backed Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s inclusion in the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general election.

Soludo was named the campaign coordinator for Anambra State in the APC’s revised presidential campaign council list released on Tuesday. The expanded council is expected to coordinate activities in support of President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.

The appointment has drawn attention because Soludo belongs to APGA, rather than the ruling APC. However, APGA has previously declared its support for Tinubu’s second-term bid, with the party’s national chairman, Sly Ezeokenwa, saying the party had agreed to align with the President ahead of the 2027 election.

In March, Ezeokenwa said APGA’s position was based on the party’s strategic interests and its desire to build partnerships that could strengthen its influence in national politics.

Soludo has also publicly expressed support for Tinubu’s re-election, arguing that cooperation with the Federal Government could help secure greater opportunities for the South-East.

The revised campaign council list places Tinubu at the head of the council, with Vice-President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda serving as vice-chairmen. Senator Abdulaziz Yari is listed as director-general.

Other notable figures included in the revised list are Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, former Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola and Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo.

The council is expected to be inaugurated at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday as the APC intensifies preparations for the 2027 elections.

APGA’s position on Tinubu’s re-election has, however, been distinguished from support for APC candidates contesting other positions. The party has previously clarified that its backing for the President does not amount to an endorsement of APC candidates for legislative seats in Anambra State.

The development highlights the political cooperation between APGA’s leadership and the Federal Government while the party maintains its separate identity and plans for state-level contests.
