APC Primaries Demonstrate Internal Democracy — Tinubu
President Bola Tinubu says the APC 2026 primaries demonstrate strong internal democracy, praising party members, governors and officials for conducting a peaceful and well-organised electoral process nationwide.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has described the 2026 All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries held nationwide as a strong demonstration of internal democracy within the ruling party.
Tinubu made the remarks on Saturday after participating in the APC presidential primaries at Ikoyi-Obalende Ward L2 in Lagos State, saying the exercise reflects a deepening of democratic practice within the party structure.
The president arrived at the venue alongside his wife, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, and was received by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Lagos APC Chairman Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment Dr Jumoke Oduwole, and former Finance Minister Wale Edun, among other party leaders.
He commended party members for their orderly conduct, enthusiasm, and commitment to democratic values during the exercise.
According to a statement by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu said the process across states had been well-organised and inclusive.
“This is a demonstration of internal democracy, and it has been going on very well according to plan. This is grassroots politics where every member of the party has the right to participate,” the president said.
He added that the conduct of ward and local government congresses, delegate accreditation, validation, and membership registration reflected a structured and credible process.
“It has been done very well, and with this, you could rate democracy at a high level,” Tinubu stated.
The president further noted that governors across the country performed well in managing party activities at various levels, contributing to what he described as a smooth and transparent process.
Tinubu also praised electoral officials, party leaders, and security agencies for ensuring peaceful conduct throughout the primaries.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to democratic governance, transparency, and policies aimed at improving the welfare of Nigerians while strengthening political stability across the country.
