APC, Makinde Trade Words Over Alleged Plans to Sell Agodi Fish Farm
Oyo APC accuses Governor Seyi Makinde of planning to transfer the Agodi Government Fish Farm to a private estate developer, but the government denies the allegation.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State and the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde have exchanged words over allegations that the state government plans to sell or transfer the Agodi Government Fish Farm in Ibadan to a private developer.
The controversy began after the state chapter of the APC accused Makinde of planning to cede the government-owned facility to Baywood Estate, a private housing development located around the Agodi area.
In a statement issued on Friday, November 6, 2026, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, alleged that the proposed transfer was part of a broader plan to expand private estate developments around the Agodi Government Secretariat.
The APC claimed that the government intended to demolish the fish farm and merge the land with the adjoining private estate.
Describing the facility as an important public asset, the party said the approximately 40-year-old fish farm houses offices, laboratories, demonstration farms, ponds and training centres used by students, researchers and practising fish farmers.
It also noted that the facility accommodates the Ogunpa Lake, where local and exotic fish species are bred for educational and commercial purposes.
The opposition party called on Makinde to suspend any proposed transfer of the facility, urging traditional leaders and residents to intervene in what it described as an attempt to convert public property into private commercial assets.
However, the state government rejected the allegation, describing it as reckless and based on inaccurate information.
Speaking through his Special Adviser on Media, Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, the governor maintained that there was no plan to sell, cede or transfer the Agodi Government Fish Farm to any private developer.
Olanrewaju said the allegation existed only in the imagination of those seeking to generate political controversy rather than engage in factual public discussions.
The government did not announce any proposed transaction involving the facility in its response.
The exchange has renewed political debate over the management, preservation and ownership of public assets in Oyo State, particularly properties located around the Agodi government district.
While the APC has demanded that the facility be protected, the government insists that no sale or transfer is being contemplated.
