Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress have distanced themselves from any political alliance with the Rainbow Coalition led by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Chairman of the APC Governors Forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, made the position known after the governors’ meeting in Abuja on Monday night.

Uzodimma said the governors had not entered into any formal agreement with Wike, any individual or opposition party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Wike, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party serving in the APC-led Federal Government, has been promoting the Rainbow Coalition in Rivers State in support of President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.

The FCT minister had recently alleged that Uzodimma and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq were behind some of the political challenges facing him, which he linked to the expansion of his coalition.

Responding to the development, the APC governors said they would not support any arrangement capable of weakening the party, creating divided loyalty or undermining its candidates.

Uzodimma said the forum had unanimously resolved that its members would not participate in, support or endorse any alliance that could adversely affect the re-election of Tinubu or any APC candidate.

He said the governors’ campaign efforts would be focused exclusively on candidates sponsored by the APC at all levels.

The forum chairman added that the governors would align their campaign structures with the objectives of the party and the President ahead of the elections.

He said the decision was intended to maintain unity within the APC and ensure that the party’s candidates received the full backing of its governors during the 2027 polls.
