APC Chieftain Urges Tinubu to Strengthen Poverty Reduction Programmes
APC chieftain Olatunbosun Oyintiloye has urged President Bola Tinubu to strengthen and properly monitor social intervention programmes to ensure they effectively reduce poverty.
An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Osun, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has urged President Bola Tinubu to ensure that the Federal Government’s social intervention programmes deliver measurable benefits to Nigerians facing economic hardship.
Oyintiloye made the call in a statement issued in Osogbo on Sunday, while commending the allocation of N462.66 billion to the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction in the 2026 Appropriation Act.
He, however, said effective strategies were needed to ensure that funds allocated to poverty reduction programmes translated into tangible improvements in the lives of vulnerable Nigerians.
Oyintiloye called for comprehensive evaluation and stronger implementation of existing interventions covering youth employment, skills development, cash transfers, school feeding, agriculture and other social protection measures.
He said the programmes should have clear targets, transparent beneficiary selection, effective monitoring and measurable performance indicators to reduce leakages, duplication and abuse.
“The President must also ensure that public funds produce identifiable benefits,” he said, adding that efforts to alleviate poverty should not be undermined by individuals pursuing personal interests.
The APC chieftain also called for improved workers’ allowances and welfare packages, saying such measures could increase purchasing power, support local businesses and strengthen household incomes.
He noted that millions of Nigerians were living below the poverty line and urged the Federal Government to review and repackage its interventions to achieve their intended objectives.
Oyintiloye expressed support for the administration’s poverty reduction efforts, saying the economic challenges facing Nigerians required sustained measures to improve living conditions.
He also urged Nigerians to continue supporting the government’s efforts, while expressing optimism that the hardship being experienced by citizens would eventually ease.
