Amusan Wins Silver at World Athletics Ultimate Championship
Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan won silver in the women’s 100m hurdles at the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest.
Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan finished second in the women’s 100m hurdles at the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest, Hungary, on Friday.
Amusan clocked 12.34 seconds to secure the silver medal behind American Olympic champion Masai Russell, who won in 12.22 seconds.
Dutch athlete Nadine Visser completed the podium in 12.39 seconds.
The Nigerian had earlier qualified for the final after finishing second in her semi-final in 12.49 seconds, behind Bahamas’ Devynne Charlton, who ran 12.45 seconds.
The result gave Amusan another major podium finish after she won bronze at the Commonwealth Games and finished fourth at the Diamond League Final earlier in the month.
Russell entered the Budapest final as the favourite after breaking Amusan’s former world record with a time of 12.09 seconds in Zurich in August.
The American maintained her unbeaten run in 2026 by adding the Ultimate Championship title to her Diamond League success in Brussels.
Amusan’s silver also earned her $75,000, while Russell received the $150,000 winner’s prize at the new championship, which has a total prize fund of $10 million.
