Alonso to Make Late Call on Caicedo for Arsenal, Chelsea Clash
Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso says he will make a late decision on Moises Caicedo’s fitness ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash with Arsenal.
Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso will make a late decision on the availability of midfielder Moises Caicedo for Sunday’s Premier League clash against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
Caicedo missed Chelsea’s opening two Premier League matches of the season but has returned to training and could feature against the defending champions.
Alonso said the Ecuador international would undergo further assessment before a final decision was made on his involvement.
“We will see tomorrow. We have one more day to decide,” Alonso said when asked about Caicedo’s fitness.
The midfielder’s potential return would provide a boost for Chelsea, who have opened the campaign with two Premier League victories and remain unbeaten under Alonso.
Chelsea defeated Fulham in their opening league fixture before edging Brighton 4-3 last weekend, although they conceded five goals across the two matches.
Arsenal have also won both of their opening league fixtures, defeating Coventry City 3-0 before recording a 1-0 victory away to Aston Villa.
The London rivals will meet at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, with both sides seeking to maintain their perfect starts to the Premier League campaign.
Alonso is also expected to assess the fitness of other players before naming his squad, as Chelsea look to extend their strong start against an Arsenal side that has kept six clean sheets in its last seven league matches.
