Alli Criticises Makinde Over Oyo Projects, Streetlights
Senator Sharafadeen Alli’s campaign organisation has criticised Governor Seyi Makinde over Oyo State’s streetlight project and the renovation of Lekan Salami Stadium, questioning their cost and effectiveness.
The campaign organisation of Senator Sharafadeen Alli, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Oyo State, has criticised Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration over some of its infrastructure projects.
The organisation, in a statement by its Head of Media and Publicity, Bisi Oladele, questioned Makinde’s engineering credentials over the government’s streetlight project, alleging that the facilities were being powered by diesel generators.
The statement followed remarks by Makinde on Friday in which he described Alli as a lawyer who had never entered a courtroom.
Oladele alleged that about N400 billion had been spent on the streetlight project and questioned why the administration had not developed a more sustainable power solution.
He also criticised the reported removal of solar infrastructure and electric poles installed under the previous administration, asking why they were not repaired or upgraded.
According to the organisation, some of the streetlights had become dysfunctional, while load-shedding was allegedly affecting the operation of others.
It further questioned the renovation of the Lekan Salami Stadium in Adamasingba, Ibadan, alleging that the facility failed to secure approval from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to host a continental fixture.
The campaign organisation said more than N5 billion was committed to the stadium renovation and questioned why Shooting Stars Sports Club would have to seek an alternative venue in Abeokuta, Ogun State, for continental matches.
It described the situation as evidence of inadequate planning and called for greater accountability in the execution of public projects.
The organisation also said Makinde’s repeated references to Alli during public engagements demonstrated the growing political contest between the two politicians ahead of the 2027 Oyo State governorship election.
The allegations form part of an ongoing exchange between Makinde and Alli over their professional backgrounds, public records and the performance of the Oyo State government.
