Alia Woos Investors, Partners to Benue at UNGA
Alia showcases Benue’s investment opportunities at UNGA, seeking global partnerships to accelerate economic growth and development.
Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has used the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York to showcase the state’s investment opportunities and seek partnerships with international investors and development organisations.
Alia is among Nigerian leaders participating in engagements around the UNGA, using the global platform to highlight Benue’s economic potential and attract partnerships that can support development across the state.
The governor has continued to promote Benue as an investment destination, with emphasis on agriculture, solid minerals, infrastructure, commerce and industry, human capital development and technology.
Benue is widely known for its agricultural potential, with significant production of crops including soybeans, sesame and other food and cash crops. The state government is seeking to attract investors into agriculture and agro-processing to increase production, create jobs and expand opportunities across the value chain.
The state also has deposits of several solid minerals, including barytes, kaolin, glass sand and coal. The government has identified mineral development and processing as areas with potential for investment and industrial expansion.
Alia’s engagement at UNGA is also focused on strengthening relationships with international development partners and organisations whose interventions can support economic and social development in the state.
The governor has previously held meetings with representatives of international organisations, including the United Nations Development Programme and the International Organization for Migration, to discuss development programmes and support for vulnerable communities.
Security and humanitarian challenges have also featured in the state’s discussions with international partners, particularly concerning internally displaced persons and communities affected by insecurity.
Through the Benue Investment Promotion Agency, the state government is working to promote investment opportunities and facilitate the establishment of projects by domestic and foreign investors.
The administration has identified agriculture and rural development, commerce and industry, infrastructure, ICT, human capital development and solid minerals among the sectors requiring greater investment.
Alia’s presence at UNGA provides an opportunity to present these opportunities directly to global investors and development partners while seeking partnerships capable of supporting long-term economic development.
The governor is expected to continue engaging investors and international organisations during the UNGA programme as Benue seeks to attract capital, technical partnerships and development support to the state.
