Alausa Hails NYSC Technology Drive to Curb Fraud
Education Minister Tunji Alausa has commended the NYSC for using technology to improve operations, strengthen document security and combat fraud.
The Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, has commended the National Youth Service Corps for deploying technology to improve its operations, particularly registration and the deployment of Corps Members.
Alausa gave the commendation in Abuja when the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, paid him a courtesy visit.
The minister praised the transformation recorded by the scheme, noting that the digitisation of registration had significantly improved efficiency despite initial resistance from some members of the public.
He said the adoption of technology had helped make NYSC operations more seamless and improved the deployment process.
Nafiu said the NYSC had also strengthened security features on Corps Members’ Call-up and Posting Letters following attempts by unscrupulous individuals to clone the documents and issue fake letters to prospective employers.
According to him, the fraudulent activities were also being used to extort money from unsuspecting prospective Corps Members.
The NYSC Director-General said the enhanced security features had made the documents more difficult to manipulate while enabling employers to verify their authenticity.
He added that a joint committee comprising officials of the NYSC and the Federal Ministry of Education had been established to strengthen collaboration between the two institutions.
The development forms part of broader efforts by the Federal Government and NYSC to use digital systems to improve the integrity of academic and national service records and tackle fraudulent practices.
